Since at least February 5, a wave of accounts have been tweeting incessantly about one topic: a collaboration between the Department of Justice (DoJ) and Tether.
It’s impossible to say for sure who allocated the money to buy a bunch of blue check accounts on X (formerly Twitter) to post about the “great teamwork” between Tether and the US government. However, one would be inclined to believe that it was a PR firm or Tether itself that determined that a concerted PR push is worth the time and effort.
Unfortunately, there is no news from the DoJ or Tether on any collaborations or partnerships. The last DoJ press release explicitly mentioning Tether dates back to November last year. In the statement, which covered the so-called “pig slaughter” scam, the Justice Department said: “The Department would like to thank Tether for its assistance in effecting the transfer of these assets.”
When a Google search is performed for one of the repeatedly tweeted top phrases: “Kudos to the DoJ and Tether” – a post on LinkedIn from a certain Erin West comes up. West is a Santa Clara County district attorney who was previously described by DLNews as one of the few U.S. prosecutors prosecuting hog slaughter scammers.

AI-generated bot farms edit posts on Tether
While AI will likely profoundly change the future, it is also changing the world we live in today, albeit in somewhat annoying ways. Examples include allowing bot farms on X to marginally edit posts so they don’t look like spam. The current batch of posts about the DoJ and Tether almost always consist of something along the lines of “Kudos to the DoJ and Tether for teaming up to fight romance scammers, a much-needed effort!”

These are just some of the DoJ and Tether related posts currently littering X.

The funniest tweets resemble AI-generated poems about Tether, such as “the collaboration between the DoJ and Tether” [is like a] symbiotic dance between flowers and pollinators” and “rustling leaves evoke tranquility; Tether and DoJ teamwork restores peace.”
These tweets would be a lot funnier if it weren’t clear that a paid actor is promoting them on X, that a bot farm or PR firm is using AI to reduce the cost of spam, and if some of them didn’t seem almost -normal people. Unfortunately they do and Elon Musk’s platform is doing nothing to stop it.
Regardless, the strongest argument for Tether not being behind the current pro-Tether-DoJ collaborative tweets is simply that there is no news related to the DoJ or Tether and there hasn’t been for a significant period of time. There would be no good reason for the controversial stablecoin to draw attention to its ongoing difficulties or collaborations with law enforcement.
