What is Aurora?
The Aurora Token, or AURORA, is the governance token that powers Aurora DAO. The latter represents decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) is responsible for managing the Aurora ecosystem.
AURORA is based on ERK-20 token standard.
The maximum limit is 1,000,000,000 Aurora tokens. They were distributed as follows:
- 40.6% – Future DAO projects;
- 20% – Public treasury;
- 16% – long-term incentives for Aurora Laboratory;
- 9% – investors in the private round of Aurora Labs;
- 3% — growth round of Aurora Laboratories;

What are the main features of Aurora?
Aurora is EVM-compatible Level 2 solution which was developed using NEAR protocol. Its main function is to facilitate smooth integration decentralized applications (dApps) on the NEAR blockchain.
There are more than 150 unique projects in the Aurora ecosystem. They fall into different categories including DeFi, GameFi, NFTs and wallets, among many others.
Another key component of the Aurora ecosystem is Rainbow Bridge. The latest is the Aurora tool, which allows users to transfer assets between the Aurora, NEAR and Ethereum networks.
Transaction fees on the Aurora network are paid in ETH.
As discussed in What is Aurora The Aurora protocol is managed through the Aurora DAO, which runs on the Aurora token. Decisions are voted on and made by council members, which include Aurora Labs, major investors and ecosystem partners.

Who developed the Aurora?
The Aurora cryptocurrency project was launched in 2021. It was developed by the NEAR Protocol team.
Alexey Shevchenko has served as CEO of Aurora Labs since the creation of the Aurora crypto project. He is also the Product Manager at NEAR Protocol. Shevchenko
holds a PhD in applied physics and mathematics and has been working in the cryptocurrency world since 2015. Before joining Aurora Labs, he worked at SonoCoin and Bitfury.
The role of technical director is performed by Arto Bendiken – software engineer with over 20 years of experience. He worked for the European Space Agency and the US Naval Space and Naval Systems Command. In addition to Aurora Labs, Bendiken launched Unlicense.org, a tool for public access to code.
Other core team members include Frank Baun, Security and Infrastructure Lead, Joshua J. Bowe, Aurora Labs Engine Team Lead, and Kiril Abramov, Aurora Labs Bridge Team Lead.
