What is Astar?
The Astar token or ASTR is the native utility token that powers the Astar network. The latter represents Web3 infrastructure with built-in computer, WASM and Layer 2 solutions on Polkadot. Simply put, it connects Polkadot to layer 1 blockchains such as Ethereum.
It has several uses. First, the Astar token serves as a governance token. This means that network members who own ASTR can vote on proposals. Secondly, in addition to traditional network staking, the Astar coin allows holders to participate in staking in decentralized applications. Owners can list their ASTR on dApps and receive rewards in cryptocurrency. The dApp rate also incentivizes dApp developers.
The total supply is 7,000,000,000 ASTR. This means that the price of ASTR may increase due to the smaller supply of tokens. Tokens were distributed as follows:
- 30% are early adopters;
- 20% — Parachain auction 2021;
- 10% – Development;
- 10% – Fund;
- 10% – Early financial sponsors;
- 5% – Team;
- 5% — Parachain Auction Reserve;
- 5% – on-chain DAOs;
- 5% – Marketing.

Who developed Astar?
Crypto project Astar White paper was published in March 2020. Its authors are Takumi Yamashita, Sota Watanabe and Kim Hong.
