The Gate.io spot market supports three types of orders:
- Limit orders – users set their preferred buying and selling prices and are matched accordingly;
- Iceberg orders – trading large orders with hidden true volume; Gate.io commission for processing hidden orders is 0.2% of the total volume;
- Immediately or Cancel (IOC) — all or part of the order volume is fulfilled immediately. If this is not possible, the unfulfilled portion of the order will be cancelled.
Gate.io’s spot market allows grid trading strategy, which is popular in volatile markets such as cryptocurrency. Traders can choose Intelligent network created by artificial intelligence or create your own manual grid on the Gate.io crypto exchange.
Eat 17 levels into the commission system for spot and futures trading, ranging from VIP 0 to VIP 16. Commissions are determined by Gate.io’s 30-day volume and use a maker/taker model. In VIP 0, the volume does not exceed $60,000, and commissions are 0.2% for both market makers and takers. GT token holders can receive a discount and pay 0.15%.
Starting with VIP 10, with Gatio.io trading volume of at least $100 million, market makers holding GT tokens are not required to pay any fees, and taker fees are gradually reduced. For VIP 16, the required 30-day volume must be at least $3 billion, and makers and takers pay 0.055% and 0.065% respectively if they do not have GT tokens.
Derivatives marketplace Gate.io offers options trading. Short-term options and simulated call/put option trading are available that expire in 1, 4 or 24 hours. Gate.io charges a 0.4% processing fee for short-term options and has a limited maximum purchase amount.
The Gate.io futures market also uses a 17-layer model. However, there are no discounts for GT token holders. Similar to the spot market, with VIP 0, Gate.io’s 30-day trading volume is less than $60,000. For VIP 16, the required volume must be at least $3 billion.
While taker fees gradually decrease at each of the 17 levels for market takers, market makers are grouped into three fee ranges:
- VIP 0 – VIP 5: 0.015%
- VIP 6 – VIP 9: 0.010%
- VIP 10 – VIP 16: 0.000%
Clients can trade perpetual markets using ETF Leveraged Tokens. They offer 3x and 5x leverage for long bullish and short bearish tokens. Users must pay Gate.io a daily exchange fee of 0.1% to manage leveraged tokens.
Gate.io cryptocurrency exchange users can take part in copy trade. This is a mechanism where a user copies the same positions taken by another, usually more famous, trader. The strategy bot can be used to preview potential trading strategies. 5% of the profit made using the bot goes to the strategy provider.

Gate.io was originally founded as a Chinese exchange. Bter.com in 2013. Following the change in China’s cryptocurrency policy in 2017, a team led by Lin Hanannounced that the project will be renamed the Gate.io cryptocurrency exchange.
