Shibarmy Scam Alerts, a scam awareness channel run by the Shiba Inu community, has drawn public attention to the latest tactics used by scammers.
The channel took to X to alert members of the Shiba Inu community to the presence of fake Telegram accounts impersonating lead Shiba Inu developers Shytoshi Kusama and Kaal Dhairya.
Scammers pose as developers of Shiba Inu
He shared screenshots of two different Telegram accounts impersonating lead developer Kusama. Notably, both accounts were created using Kusama’s official Telegram name. However, the difference can be seen in the username.
Similarly, the malicious actors also created a fake Telegram account impersonating Dhairya, the main developer of Shibarium. While Telegram’s name might mislead unsuspecting investors, a closer look at the username reveals the fraudulent act.
For example, the actors behind the fake Dhairya Telegram account modified the original username, changing it from “@kaaldhairya” to “@kaa1dhairya”.
Shibarmy Scam Alerts Users beware
In particular, Shibarmy Scam Alerts warned members of the Shiba Inu community that evildoers are creating fake Telegram accounts to spread malicious information and direct people to fraudulent platforms.
The intention behind this move is to steal people’s assets or convince them to share their information for malicious purposes. He warned members of the Shiba Inu community to remain vigilant and cautious, stressing the importance of relying only on trusted sources for information.
The channel also reminded Shiba Inu enthusiasts that no member of the official team will ever contact them to disclose their information or connect their wallets to any platform. Additionally, it encouraged users to protect other community members by reporting any suspicious activity.
Scams on the rise against Shiba Inu investors
Despite the exposure, malicious actors have not relented in their attempt to take advantage of unsuspecting Shiba Inu investors.
These scammers have employed various tactics, including promoting fake giveaways on social media and directing unsuspecting community members to illicit websites.
They now impersonate key members of the Shiba Inu ecosystem team, including Kusama and Dhairya, to lend authenticity to their illicit posts.
Last year, a fake X account impersonating Kusama promoted a fake Shibarium giveaway after celebrating the launch of version 2.0 of the network. As previously reported, popular Shiba Inu influencer “SHIB KNIGHT” warned members not to participate in the giveaway, stressing that the post did not come from Kusama.
