Pepe Scam 2023
The Pepe (PEPE) community is calling on enthusiasts of the eccentric memetic cryptocurrency to help identify compromised accounts and report them as scams for swift action. Allegedly, some wrongdoers have notified their followers about internal team “splits.” Be cautious of potential scams:
The PEPE Twitter and Telegram accounts have been compromised. The PEPE contributors have lost control of their “old” Telegram channel due to a hacking incident, and they are no longer responsible for the content posted there. Furthermore, scammers have taken control of one of the longest-standing PEPE-related Twitter accounts, LordKekLol. This announcement was made on the official PEPE account on September 9, 2023.

The old telegram for $PEPE is hacked and no longer in our control. The “lordkeklol” account has been compromised. Whoever has gained access to this account is using it to push scams and deceive people and launch other coins. This person is lying and… pic.twitter.com/jxlYwoSP1Q
The targeted Telegram group was one of the most prominent social media platforms dedicated to Pepe (PEPE), the highly hyped meme cryptocurrency of 2023. At the time of the cyberattack, it had amassed nearly 45,000 followers. PEPE enthusiasts are urged to join forces with the project’s contributors to dismantle the compromised Telegram group, enabling the legitimate team members to establish a new communication channel.
Additionally, the account known as LordKekLol on X (formerly Twitter) has been compromised and may be exploited for launching new cryptocurrencies while enticing investors. Presently, it is disconnected from the original Pepe (PEPE) team. The individual who has gained control of this account is employing it for fraudulent activities, attempting to deceive people and introduce new coins. It is important to clarify that this individual has no association with $PEPE, its current or former members.
Largest whales might be mass-selling Pepe (PEPE), on-chain statistics says
However, the new account owner contests the assertion that the Telegram and X channels of PEPE were compromised. They contend that the team is currently undergoing internal “split-ups.”
In other news, it has been observed that some of the largest Pepe (PEPE) holders are engaging in mass-selling activities, based on on-chain statistics. The PEPE coin is currently trading at $0.00000078 on major exchanges, and it is on the brink of slipping out of the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. As previously reported by U.Today in early September 2023, substantial holders have been offloading their Pepe (PEPE) holdings at a loss. Over 2.3 trillion PEPE tokens have been transferred to exchanges and exchanged for Ethereum (ETH).
The sentiment within the PEPE community turned bearish when several contributors to the project sold over 16 trillion PEPE tokens on the OKX centralized exchange. This move, executed by “three team members with access to a multisig wallet,” resulted in a 24% overnight drop in the PEPE price.
