On November 21, 2021, Anthropic announced that it had made significant progress in improving the security of Claude 2.1 by implementing a 200,000 token context window.
Anthropic is an American research and development company focused on the safe and beneficial development of artificial general intelligence (AGI). Founded in 2015 by former OpenAI researchers Dario and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic aims to create AI that is aligned with human values and can benefit society.
Claude is a large language model (LLM) developed by Anthropic. LLMs are a type of artificial intelligence (AI) trained on a large amount of text data. This training allows them to generate human-like texts, translate languages, write different types of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way. Claude is specifically designed to be safe, helpful and honest.
According to Anthropic’s announcement, this extensive context window allows Claude 2.1 to access and process a large amount of information when generating text, allowing it to produce more accurate and coherent responses. This heightened awareness of context also reduces the likelihood that Claude 2.1 will produce objectively incorrect or misleading results, a phenomenon known as hallucination.
To further improve safety, Anthropic has implemented a variety of techniques that have resulted in a twofold decrease in Claude 2.1’s hallucination rate. These techniques include improved training methods, fine-tuning of data sets specifically designed to detect hallucinations, and the development of novel algorithms that can identify and flag potentially harmful outcomes.
By combining the 200K context window with these advanced hallucination detection techniques, Anthropic has made notable strides in ensuring the safety of Claude 2.1, making it a more reliable tool for a wide range of applications.
Recognizing the potential of Claude 2.1 to benefit a broader audience, Anthropic has introduced an API tool that allows developers to integrate Claude 2.1 capabilities into their own applications. This API provides a seamless way for developers to take advantage of Claude 2.1’s powerful text generation, summarization, and question answering capabilities, improving the functionality and user experience of their applications.
The API tool offers several advantages for developers:
- Ease of integration: The API is designed to be easy to integrate into existing applications, allowing developers to quickly incorporate Claude 2.1 capabilities into their code.
- Customizable parameters: Developers can tune the behavior of Claude 2.1 by adjusting various parameters, allowing them to tailor the model results to their specific needs.
- Scalable performance: The API supports a high volume of requests, ensuring that Claude 2.1 can handle the demands of large-scale applications.
Anthropic has introduced system prompts, a new feature in Claude 2.1 that allows users to provide custom instructions to the model to improve performance. System prompts allow users to guide Claude’s results by specifying desired personalities, roles, or response structures, enhancing the model’s versatility and adaptability to user needs.
Claude 2.1 is now available via the Anthropic API and powers the company’s chat interface on claude.ai for both the free and Pro tier. Pro users now have access to the 200K token context window , which allows them to process larger files and generate more complete and contextually aware responses.
Claude 2.1 is live.
200,000 chips.
Function call.
If you’re an OpenAI developer and worried about what will happen to your apps if OpenAI goes down, this is a fantastic alternative. https://t.co/qzijjYwPqx

The best thing about Claude 2.1 is the increase in intellectual humility.
Claude increasingly learns to say “I don’t know” instead of making things up. This is good for business and for society. https://t.co/VDsoUCIs3h pic.twitter.com/8ugCd1EuT3
