Social media platforms have historically struggled to embrace cryptocurrency: Facebook announced plans to launch the Diem stablecoin in 2019, but regulators shut down the project within a year of its launch.
Musk took control of the social media platform formerly known as Twitter in late 2022 as the company’s financial situation worsened.
Since then, the Tesla founder has been looking for new ways to make money, with the goal of making X “an app for everything.”
