The Ethereum network is making another major play to bring its latest Dencun upgrade to the mainnet. According According to one of the lead developers working on the update, Christine Kim, the Dencun update will go live on the Holesky Testnet later today, at approximately 11:34 am UTC.
As Kim revealed in his X post, this update will be the last testnet release before it finally goes live on the mainnet. The mainnet date is not yet known; However, if the debut on Holesky goes well, Ethereum developers will move up the date to wait for the update to debut on the mainnet.
As Guru-Investingpreviously reported, the Dencun update went live on the Sepolia Testnet in January, setting the stage for the current move to Holesky. Notably, potential Ethereum upgrades go through different testnets to solidify their readiness for mainnet debut.
With each testnet built to mirror mainnet conditions, developers can easily monitor crashes, which are then resolved before the update is finally opened to the public. This approach provides for minimal disruption to the overall system.
Dencun Update Relevance
The Dencun upgrade has an important fundamental value proposition that will be achieved with the Proto-DankSharding innovation that will process blocks of data and make the Ethereum blockchain scale faster. The way the data will be modeled will also affect the cost of transactions on the network.
As Ethereum continues to suffer from slow performance and high costs, the Dencun upgrade will usher in a dramatic change to the network, one that could begin to return the blockchain to its optimized state. Overall, Ethereum is poised to threaten its competitors as it will be relatively faster and cheaper to use after the upgrade.
