Ripple CTO David Schwartz has responded to a possible move by Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, now known as X. Musk is reportedly considering removing the Like and Retweet buttons from the timeline.
xdiary, an X account that reports updates on main, showing only the view count unless the post is tapped. Musk claims this will significantly increase readability.
It is speculated that X’s current goal is to replace interaction buttons (such as Like and Repost) on the main timeline with gestures.
Schwartz discusses the likely reasons why he believes X owner Elon Musk might want to take the plunge.
“I found out why Elon wants to get rid of interaction buttons. It will make it impossible to report or respond to ‘premium’ ads or put community notes on them and you don’t want it to be visibly obvious in your feed or you will learn to ignore them,” said the CTO from Ripple.
During the week, lines of text were removed from all external URL cards, with Musk stating that they were redundant and took up too much vertical space. This attracted widespread attention and comment.
Musk has not been shy about fulfilling his dreams, such as colonizing Mars: In July, Musk launched a rebrand of Twitter under the name X. His vision was to turn the platform into a financial hub and a social platform. X’s planned growth into a comprehensive mobile app follows in the footsteps of Asian super apps like WeChat.
