Today, July 30, marks nine years since the launch of the Ethereum (ETH) mainnet. Many enthusiasts celebrate this day as the birthday of one of the largest blockchains.
Nine years later, Ethereum is the largest altcoin on the market and the second-largest cryptocurrency after Bitcoin. The market cap of ETH, the network’s native currency, is currently $401 million. The total value locked in the blockchain is approaching $60 billion.
So it was on this day in 2015 that former Ethereum Foundation COO Stefan Tual shared a blog post officially announcing the launch of the network. In his post, Tual wrote about his vision of a world computer that would be programmable and censorship-resistant.
However, today, Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, shared his post. In this way, Buterin congratulated Ethereum on its 9th anniversary and said that he is looking forward to what the next decade will bring.

What’s Next for Ethereum (ETH)?
Ethereum continues to evolve in full accordance with its roadmap. After a series of updates and proposals, the blockchain is on track for the next milestones.
Next up are the Verge and Purge updates. The former will bring Verkle trees, which will allow us to run stateless clients and reduce the cost of running a node. This change is expected to increase the gas limit at level 1 by ten times, making transactions cheaper.
The goal is to make the Ethereum Virtual Machine simpler by removing some features. This will make the EVM more efficient.
