Cryptocurrency exchange OKX recently launched PNUT, a meme coin inspired by the viral peanut squirrel, on its platform. The squirrel token surged nearly 9% just minutes after OKX launched.
OKX, one of the largest centralized exchanges by trading volume, announced the addition of Peanut the Squirrel meme coin (PNUT) to its platform. The Solana-based meme coin is available for spot trading with Tether (USDT) starting November 11 at 10:30 UTC.
Five minutes after OKX announced the launch of PNUT, the meme coin surged 8.42% and is currently trading at $0.4489, according to DEX Screener. At the time of writing, the PNUT token has accumulated a market cap of nearly $450 million and a fully diluted volume of $448.6 million.
The launch of PNUT on OKX comes just hours after Binance announced that PNUT will debut on the platform on November 11 at 10:00 UTC. In the last 24 hours, PNUT’s price has skyrocketed 332%, largely thanks to its listing on Binance alongside another viral meme coin, Act 1: The AI Prophecy, also known as ACT.
According to OKX, traders can start depositing PNUT from its opening on November 11 at 9:20 UTC. Meanwhile, the call auction period starts from November 11, 9:40 UTC to 10:40 UTC.
However, traders will only be able to start withdrawing the PNUT token after 22:00 UTC on November 12th. The crypto exchange notes that the total supply of PNUT currently stands at 999.8 million tokens.
The PNUT meme coin launched in early November, shortly after the death of viral internet squirrel Peanut. On October 30, the peanuts were confiscated from the home of owner Mark Longo by New York City authorities following anonymous complaints.
NYSDEC allegedly euthanized Peanut, which caused a public outcry among animal rights activists and ordinary people, including Elon Musk, who considered the squirrel a symbol of unnecessary government action.
The crypto community paid tribute to Peanut by setting up several meme coins in his honor. The leading Peanut meme coin is Solana-based PNUT, which reached $300 million in trading volume and 200,000 transactions in just two days.
