Web3 vulnerability bounty platform Immunefi has teamed up with the Ethereum Foundation to launch “Attackathon,” a large-scale collaborative audit competition aimed at securing the Ethereum network.

Ethereum Attackathon Auditing Competition Launched

The Ethereum Attackathon audit competition will feature elite security researchers from the Immunefi community who will compete in time-limited audits for rewards, recognition, and prestige.

The event marks the first collaborative effort of its kind, aiming to be the largest ever crowdsourced security audit of the entire Ethereum protocol code. The Ethereum Attackathon audit competition is a time-limited code review program in which leading security researchers will identify vulnerabilities in the core protocol. Additionally, the event includes a comprehensive educational program to enhance the security research community with Ethereum-related knowledge.

Ethereum, an open-source blockchain platform, allows developers to create and deploy smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps). Since its launch in 2015, Ethereum has provided a secure and transparent environment for a variety of applications beyond cryptocurrency, driving innovation in finance, gaming, and supply chain management.

$500,000 Reward Fund to Attract Leading Security Researchers and Funders

The Ethereum Foundation has contributed $500,000 to the Attackathon reward pool, incentivizing developers and ecosystem projects to participate. The reward pool will compensate researchers and developers for identifying security issues and bugs. Sponsors who contribute to the pool will receive NFTs and recognition on the sponsorship leaderboard.

Funds will be deposited into the Attackathon Vault on Immunefi, which transparently displays the distribution of program funds and streamlines payments between projects and security researchers. The sponsorship program will be closed and the final reward pool will be locked by August 1, 2024.
