A phishing site posing as the Ethereum search engine Etherscan has been spotted in DuckDuckGo and Bing search engines as one of the first results for Etherscan.
Today, Scam Sniffer identified the Etherscan phishing site and warned X (formerly Twitter) users: “Your assets may be at risk due to a simple mistake. Stay safe and be vigilant!”
The phishing site uses the same logo as Etherscan and describes the basics of the tool. DuckDuckGo and Bing also list the phishing site as the second search result, just below the legitimate Etherscan site.
A phishing site can be identified by the extra dash in its web address, which replaces “etherscan” with “et-herscan”.

Scam Sniffer highlighted the problem of phishing websites, noting that someone lost nearly $521,000 to a scam involving a fake cryptocurrency authorization signature. On the other hand, the FBI reported this week that cryptocurrency scams will bring in more than $5.6 billion in 2023, up 45% from the year before.
Cryptocurrency exchange OKX and AI blockchain security firm Veritas Protocol have also warned users to properly identify websites. Veritas Protocol said: “Phishing sites can look very convincing and are easy to misinterpret.”
“Always double check URLs before clicking, especially when dealing with crypto assets. Stay safe and always make sure you are using the official site!”
